LESBOS. Mytilene. Circa 521-478 BC. Hekte (Subaeratus, 11 mm, 2.26 g, 5 h), a contemporary plated imitation. Head of a ram to right; below, rooster standing left, pecking at the ground. Rev. Incuse lion’s head with open jaws to right; behind, rectangular punch. Cf. Bodenstedt 16 and SNG von Aulock 7719 (for prototype). An exceptionally well made and very well preserved contemporary imitation. A few breaks in plating, otherwise, extremely fine.
